FW: FK MoscowFARE condemns FC Moscow video
The Football Against Racism in Europe network (FARE) has raised concerns about a film made and promoted by FK Moscow which whips up xenophobic ferevour against the Polish ahead of tonight's UEFA Cup tie between FK Moscow and Legia Warsaw.
The network described the video as "unacceptable" saying it could lead to danger for the Polish supporters attending the game.
The video, originally hosted on FK Moscow's official club website and subsequently leaked onto the web, uses actors to depict a scene from the 17th century, with Russian soldiers preparing to go into battle against Polish.
The film then segues into Russian fans and players celebrating after shots of the Moscow players engaging in aggressive behaviour during the first leg and shots of Russian national team during the Euros this summer.
Michael Fanizadeh, from Austrian FARE member Fairplay, said:
"The use of footballing images in such an overtly aggressive is unacceptable in the build up to a sporting event from a leading European club.
"FK Moscow is drawing on nationalism of the most aggressive kind by playing on historical rivalry between Russia and Poland in away that whips up popular prejudices and could lead to danger for the Polish fans going to the game.
"It is completely out of step with campaigns such as Respect and Unite Against Racism that are doing so much to stamp out irresponsible behaviour such as this.''
