Preparations for European Action Week against racism in football underway

- Kick off on 17 October

(Vienna, 11 October 2007)

Football’s biggest campaign to rid the game of racism and related discriminations kicks off in one week’s time.

For the eighth successive season, the Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) network is co‑ordinating action against racism and discrimination in and around football stadiums across Europe. Between 17 and 30 October 2007 large sections of the European football family in 38 countries will stand united against racism and discrimination.

As is now customary during October, the 8th FARE Action Week will feature activities by fan groups, football clubs, national associations, community and migrant organisations, anti‑discrimination initiatives and schools. With the support of UEFA, FARE is providing financial assistance for 120 local activities that will take place in the context of this extended week of action, such as the production of campaigning materials and the organisation of anti-racism matches or special fan choreographies.

New Poster Released

The new Action Week poster has just been released in Vienna. It features a Black teenager from Greece who was involved in an Action Week event in Athens in 2007, organised by the Municipality of Athens and e-philatos.

The electronic version of the poster can be downloaded from the FARE website at:

The Action Week poster and other campaign material will be made available by FARE.

Please contact fare at vidc.org if you would like a free copy of the poster.

Everybody involved: from top-flight football to the grass roots

Besides activities by professional clubs, leagues such as the UEFA Champions League and at EURO 2008 qualifier matches, the FARE Action Week will give fans, minority groups and grass-root football teams across the continent the opportunity to come together to celebrate the integrative power of the game. More than 1000 events and initiatives are scheduled to take place in the period of the Action Week.
